Devious Maids With Latina Power and Talent

A few weeks ago, I attended the Devious Maids screening in South Beach. From the moment I started watching it, I got lost in the entertainment of the show and honestly, it made me laugh. I thought it was a fun and sassy show.

I had read some controversial stories prior to the event about why another “maid” story. Yes, it could have been called Devious Lawyers, but the twist in the show is that the characters are not portrayed as submissive and dumb. If anything, they appear smarter than the gringo characters.

I applaud the talent of the five Latinas played by Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace, Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Dania Ramirez (Entourage) , Judy Reyes (Scrubs) and Edy Ganem (Livin Loud).

I also can understand the perspective of what some bloggers have written based on their own personal stories. But I do believe since the show is now live and there are 5 Latinas in a major television network like Lifetime, we should support them. At the end of the day, if I thought the show was bad, Latina or non Latina cast, I wouldn’t watch it.

A Piece of My Son’s Love on Mother’s Day

Last night I was cleaning out a closet and stumbled upon this handmade place mat that my son made in 1998. Calculating his age 15 years back, he must have made it when he was five years old in kindergarten. He is now 20 years old. Time has faded it a bit with some wrinkles and now his hands are three times larger. But the little poem on the bottom written by Kathleen Lademan is timeless:

En Espanol: Un Pedacito del Amor de Mi Hijo
