Carlos Ponce is such a sweetheart. I had the opportunity of interviewing him and asking him what inspires him when I went to a happy hour at the Hilton Hotels where is is a spokesperson for Vacationitis. It actually is a cool campaign that diagnosis symptoms of people who don’t take vacations.
Hilton Hotels actually has research reports on the website for Vacationitis that reveals for example that Britons give more love to their jobs than their spouses. A few weeks ago, I attended the Devious Maids screening in South Beach. From the moment I started watching it, I got lost in the entertainment of the show and honestly, it made me laugh. I thought it was a fun and sassy show.
I had read some controversial stories prior to the event about why another “maid” story. Yes, it could have been called Devious Lawyers, but the twist in the show is that the characters are not portrayed as submissive and dumb. If anything, they appear smarter than the gringo characters.
I applaud the talent of the five Latinas played by Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace, Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Dania Ramirez (Entourage) , Judy Reyes (Scrubs) and Edy Ganem (Livin Loud).
I also can understand the perspective of what some bloggers have written based on their own personal stories. But I do believe since the show is now live and there are 5 Latinas in a major television network like Lifetime, we should support them. At the end of the day, if I thought the show was bad, Latina or non Latina cast, I wouldn’t watch it.
