Hispanicize 2013 Recap ~ Mucho Sabor Latino

I attended Hispanicize recently and was honored to speak at the Tech Bloggers session. Here are some of the highlights of the conference.

Cristy Clavijo-Kish with Yolanda Pagan when they announced the Memorial Scholarship fund for Louis Pagan’s children. Louis Pagan was the co-founder of Hispanicize and one of the first people I met on the Latism Twitter parties. He was such a nice man who inspired many Latinos in the blogosphere and social media. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly a few months ago. This was a very emotional tear jerking moment since Yolanda, his widow and children came on to the stage.

Honoring Louis Pagan:

Keynote speaker Soledad O’Brien sharing her life story about growing up as a Latina and her inspirational stories about how she overcame discrimination against Latinos and how she came to become one of the most influential Latina’s on CNN.

More blogger friends:

Meeting Rita Moreno, who just launched a memoir titled “Rita Moreno”.

Meeting Emilio Estefan at the Target booth who just launched Monster Headphones. I checked them out at the Target booth and I can honestly say they are high quality!

Pulitzer prize author, Sonia Nasario at the Book authors panel. She shared some great insights on what it takes to be a good writer, like constantly editing your writing, patience and dedication. She suggests joining a writers group for feedback. Her book titled “Enrique’s Journey” is a true story of a Honduran teen wanting to reconnect with his mother in the United States.

Meeting Charo in real life and amazed by her spunky spirit. She was there with Nely Galan’s Adelante Movement.

Here are some Vine Videos from some of the parties.
