Hispana Leadership Summit 2013 Recap and My Commitment To Be Vulnerable

I’ve been trying to catch up this month on all the blog posts I wanted to do. Hispana Leadership Summit was one of those events I almost missed out on because I had so much going on in September. I had four conferences back to back and almost didn’t go at the last minute.   I am so glad I didn’t because it was one of the best conferences I have ever gone to.

Some fun highlights on video:

First I would like to thank Space Coast Credit Union for taking a group of us from Miami to Orlando on a bus. I didn’t have to drive plus the time on the bus was priceless because I got to bond with some amazing women.

Vanidades and Poder Magazine  put on a top notch event at Disney’s Grand Floridian and Resort. …

Devious Maids With Latina Power and Talent

devious_maids

A few weeks ago, I attended the Devious Maids screening in South Beach. From the moment I started watching it, I got lost in the entertainment of the show and honestly, it made me laugh. I thought it was a fun and sassy show.

I had read some controversial stories prior to the event about why another “maid” story. Yes, it could have been called Devious Lawyers, but the twist in the show is that the characters are not portrayed as submissive and dumb. If anything, they appear smarter than the gringo characters.

I applaud the talent of the five Latinas played by Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace, Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Dania Ramirez (Entourage) , Judy Reyes (Scrubs) and Edy Ganem (Livin Loud).

I also can understand the perspective of what some bloggers have written based on their own personal stories. But I do believe since the show is now live and there are 5 Latinas in a major television network like Lifetime, we should support them. At the end of the day, if I thought the show was bad, Latina or non Latina cast, I wouldn’t watch it.

Jenni Rivera Tribute At The Latin Billboards 2013

Latin Billboards 2013

I attended the Latin Billboard awards this week with my friend and fab blogger, Maria de Los Angeles (@vicequeenmaria ) compliments of Target.

Besides getting all fired up listening to all the fantastic music, I was deeply moved by a very touching tribute to Jenni Rivera who won best artist of the year.  Some of the expressions from her family were:
