#Ivotebecause My Voice ~ Our Voices Matter!

Picture taken by me at Savelogy's offices at a WordPress Meetup

Tonight I attended a Twitter party to get the vote out. Check out the PR Newswire link from Voto Latino to see how many people were joining!

Joining Voto Latino in the #iVoteBecause Twitter party are Project Vote, NAACP, The Advancement Project, Rock the Vote, APALA, Non-Profit Vote, Bus Federation, Ya Es Hora, Our Vote, Mi Familia Vota, Fox News Latino, NALEO, The News Taco, Latino Rebels, Planned Parenthood, Latina Style, Politics365, Serve 60, Fight for the Future and other civic engagement and community groups.

Along with the partner organizations, there will also be a coalition of celebrity activists in attendance including Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Gina Rodriguez, Carlos Santos and Erik Rivera.

And… many regular people like me whose voices matter. My first tweet was just that:

There are so many issues affecting this country. I think about the future, when my son finishes college in three years, how the economy and how strong America is going to be, affordable health care, immigration rights for Latinos , gay rights, women’s rights, education…. and so many more other issues to think about. I have never been so reflective of an election wondering who will take the helm and hopefully lead us to a better place. I simply pray that the right man will do his best to work under extreme pressure to take us there.

Here are some tweets out of the thousands that I favorited from the stream tonight that reflect the voice of the community and which trended worldwide on Twitter!  See link to Natascha Otero-Santiago’s tweet, my awesome Co-Director at Latism South Florida.  Sorry there are so many…but they are only a few of the thousands. Every voice does matter!

Seeing the Big Picture From The Plane On Southwest Air

When I started my journey of blogging four years ago, I simply had a vision of wanting to inspire in some way. To be able to get in that inspired mode, I spent many days going to the beach to see the sunrises and sunsets, besides taking pictures of my butterfly garden. That is where I find the quiet time to reflect and look ahead at my life.

I took this photo of the beautiful sunset on the airplane on my way back from Latism 12 Conference as I looked out the window many miles high in the sky.  Same sun, different view…

During the course of these years, I have met many beautiful people I now consider friends. In fact, I can honestly say that 90% of the people I interact with now never existed in my life a few short years ago.  That is pretty amazing considering the fact that I am in middle age. …

Elianne Ramos ~ A Bright Star Serving As An Agent For Change

We are living in a world of incredible change, and there are people who are thrust upon the center stage to be change agents. I do believe that people who have the best intentions for a greater good do not have the purpose of being “on stage”.  They just happen to be there because of a mission they have to serve in some way.

Latina Bloggers At The White House : #TopBlogueras
Elianne with Ana Roca Castro, Founder of Latism

Elianne Ramos is one of these change agents. I met Elianne online through the #Latism Twitter parties in October, 2009, three short years ago, critical years that have been integral to many changes in my life. Besides the amazing local social media community in South Florida, the #Latism Twitter parties made an impact on me because I experienced first hand and organically, the power of an online community, developing those relationships offline and continuing to nurture them online. Besides her service for Latism, Elianne  has been a professional Public Relations and Marketing Strategist for the Hispanic market for many years, plus a mom and wife to a supportive husband and a true friend to many.

Elianne endured long hours each and every week for the past four and a half years without fail to support others, listen to them and share their stories so their voices could make a difference. Who cannot forget her directing the #Latism Twitter party in the lobby of the hotel at Blogher in New York a few years ago? I couldn’t believe the dedication!

I was one of those voices and because of Elianne’s leadership, I have been motivated to make a difference and I know many others feel the same way. It takes someone with not only a motivation to serve, but one who has that persistence and unwavering dedication to show up week after week all through volunteer time and without asking anything in return. That is a real public servant! Don’t you think?

I am blessed to consider Elianne a true friend and look forward to many other conversations that may include “What else can we do to create change in this world?”

For this reason, I nominate Elianne in the Yahoo Shine contest  in the category of Public Servant because her light shines super bright. Yahoo Shines is a program that will give a grand prize of $10,000 to the most votes by the community for women who are blazing new trails, changing lives, and doing extraordinary things.  So please, pretty please with a virtual hug sent your way….vote for Elianne!

Here is the link again: Vote For Elianne on Yahoo Shines and please share on Twitter with the Hashtag #WomenWhoShine  and @yahooshine . Elianne’s Twitter is @ergeekgoddess

Life Is A Journey

I took this picture of a young girl rowing when I was at the beach yesterday. I used the metaphor of her rowing as a metaphor of how we need to keep moving forward in our life and how important it is to pay attention where we are at in our journey. Change is good as long as we pay attention where we are going.

Lately I have been stressed with trying to get so much work done and managing my digital agency, VizRED which was launched in January, plus all the nuances that require to run a small business. So yesterday I really needed a #chillbreak and I treated myself to some peace and quiet. My creative juices also got flowing by playing around with my different Iphone apps and I woke up more energized today:) How about you? What do you do to take a #chillbreak?
