Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving at my Panamanian sister in law’s house, Michele who is married to my brother Pablo. Family has always been important to me. My first thoughts when I was going to write about this campaign was the diversity and union with families. For example, as a divorced mom of one child, my son has a step sister and a step brother from his father’s 2nd marriage. He goes to two family Thanksgiving and holiday celebrations so he can enjoy it with all his extended families. Sometimes he gets late to one gathering, but I never pressure him. He gets to enjoy both sides of the family. I never made it an issue so he would never feel torn.
Another diversity in our family is with religious beliefs. Michele is Jewish and celebrates our Catholic events like Baptisms and Confirmations as part of the family. Yesterday happened to be Hannukah and we celebrated with her in the lighting of the candles and prayer. I did some Instagrams video yesterday where Michele, her sister Amy and her niece shared what La Familia de Hoy means to them.
