The Prayer, The Mindset & Physical Discipline Of A 101 Year Old

The prayer that Lulu says every day as she greets each day is this:

Another leaf of my life turns its page.

What will this new day bring me?

Start with what you want, dear God.

But I ask you for faith to look at you in everything, hope that I don’t fail  and perfect charity in everything that I do, think and want.

Each moment, I want to love you more and wish the same for those that surround me.

I wish to have my heart alert, the ear attentive, my hands and my mind active and my feet available.

Spill your grace, dear God and especially to those I love.

My love covers the whole world and although I am so small, I know that you grace me with your immense goodness.

Version En Español: Oraciones Y Affirmaciones Con Lulu

Everyone wants a happy life.  But how many live and breathe it like this wise woman?  Besides her physical and mental disciplines, spirituality  is  a huge part of her life. On New Years Day, I posted a video of Lulu exercising at the gym. She is my cousin’s grandmother who at the time (December, 2010) was 100 years old. On March 4th, she turned turned 101.

Lulu was born in Susacón a small town in  Boyaca, Colombia. She is the youngest of 14 children. Presently Lulu and her sister Rosa Maria are the only living siblings. She also had a sister, Ana Maria that lived until 106 years old. You would say that Lulu is 101 because of her genes. But Lulu does many things on a daily basis to maintain her health and spirit.

This video is part two in which she shares some thoughts on body, mind and spirit. Last week, she had to go to the hospital because she got a flu  and now is at home resting and wanting to get back to her regular routine.  I went to visit her last week and as always, she was peaceful, graceful and full of love. She repeated the prayer again and added more words that nearly brought tears to my eyes.

I adore this woman for the peace and beauty that she exudes. She is an inspiration in all aspects and next to my mom, I have never met anyone who carries as pure love as her. Being in her presence is a blessing.

She goes into the sunlight at least 15 minutes every day for healthy bones while at the same time thanking God for the beautiful day.   She also shares how she does a positive self affirmation  to feel younger which she calls biostat after reading it in a book a long time ago. The affirmation is this:

I increase my mental and physical capacity. My biostat is set to a healthy age of 58 years old. I see myself and feel as someone that is 58 years old.

Notice she says “healthy” 58 years old. I asked her, “Why 58?” And she said, “It’s just a number that popped into my mind.”  This woman is the epitome of holistic living.  My mom, who is in her mid- seventies and in the video, was so amazed that she got inspired to go back to exercising. Lulu has a little bit of arthritis in her hands and says that after she does this affirmation, she can move her fingers more and do a task much easier.  Most of her life is about movement, gracefulness, appreciation, serenity and prayer.

Let Lulu be a reminder of what it truly is to be at peace.  I created this website as a place to remind us of the bigger picture. I myself have wavered many times because of situations that I know have been tests to gain more inner strength and fortitude. I have failed many times to maintain a balance and am grateful to be inspired by someone like Lulu. I mean, who hasn’t been tested in this past year? We are human beings living in this chaotic fast paced world. But yet, we are also of spirit and hopefully have been able to breathe in more peace by being inspired by this beautiful woman. I know I have.

In the end of the video, Claudia asks Lulu: Up to how many years do you want to live?

Lulu: I don’t have any agenda, because whatever God wants and what I do is because it is of his will. I am with him at every moment to whatever God avails. I am very calm. I have much peace in my heart. I have health. What else can I want? Everything I have is with Jesus because he is my friend, my companion, my love, my brother, my doctor, my attorney, my shepherd, my light, my guide, my strength. I say all that to Jesus every day.

This is the picture of Jesus she carries with her and looks at when she prays to him every day. She says the face comes alive to her and she feels his presence every day. She got it in Mexico and you can see it is worn out on the bottom left where she holds it. She didn’t have it with her at the hospital when I went to visit her. So I showed her the picture on my phone since I had taken a picture of it in December when I did this interview.

NOTE: For those of you who only understand English, forward to 2:51 and 4:54 where my cousin, Claudia translates some of what Lulu says.

***** I would love for you to share your thoughts and what you think of the prayer. I would be grateful if you would send Lulu some words by commenting since she is at home recovering. She is so happy I am posting these videos of her. And when  I called her  today to tell her I was publishing part 2, she said she was happy and that it inspired her to gain back some of her energies.******
