My Son Makes Good Choices Like The Jimenez Family

I am a single mother of a 21 year old son. He lives with me and is currently in his third year at Florida International University. My household consists of just us two plus our two little chihuahuas. Since I work from home and he spends a lot of his time studying here, we share great quality bonding time.  One of them is going to the gym and motivating each other to stay in shape. We also do it for the mind since it helps us to stay focused on all our own activities. And since he is such a tall muscular guy, we spend alot of time in the kitchen cooking.  He eats all day!

The other day, my son came home from a 17 hour dance marathon that raised $72,000. It is part of the nationwide Children’s Miracle Network.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $4.7 billion—most of it $1 at a time—for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

On You Tube, there are hundreds of videos from all over the country of the different universities that participated this year. His university has participated for 17 years and that it why it was for 17 hours. Last year it was 24 hours! So when he got home in the morning after no sleep, he complained of his muscles hurting. In his great shape, dancing uses up different muscles than normal.

Luckily, Johnson & Johnson Family Consumer Companies and Healthy Essentials help us look out for our families by providing us with the best products for them. I put some Ben Gay on his sore legs as he lay outstretched on the sofa like a zombie. And off he went into deep sleep.

Last year, I wrote about the Jimenez family for the Johnson and Johnson  Familia de Hoy campaign.  I liked the bond they have as a large extended family. Sharing Mexican and Colombian backgrounds, Juan is always making sure his children grow up learning and absorbing all the obtainable knowledge from their mom and grandma, in order to make the right choices when reaching their adult life, as well as keep taking care of each other as a family.

In the same way, although my household on a daily basis is much smaller, my heart jumps with joy when I see my son doing these types activities. It brings out the value of giving and serving and making good choices. I’m proud of my son for taking the initiative to do something for a good cause.

Here are more pictures from last years Dance Marathon. He didn’t take any this year.
