La Familia de Hoy Is Diversity

Disclosure: This is a compensated program between Johnson and Johnson and Latina Bloggers Connect. All opinions are my own.

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving at my Panamanian sister in law’s house, Michele who is married to my brother Pablo. Family has always been important to me. My first thoughts when I was going to write about this campaign was the diversity and union with families. For example, as a divorced mom of one child, my son has a step sister and a step brother from his father’s 2nd marriage. He goes to two family Thanksgiving and holiday celebrations so he can enjoy it with all his extended families. Sometimes he gets late to one gathering, but I never pressure him. He gets to enjoy both sides of the family. I never made it an issue so he would never feel torn.

Another diversity in our family is with religious beliefs. Michele is Jewish and celebrates our Catholic events like Baptisms and Confirmations as part of the family. Yesterday happened to be Hannukah and we celebrated with her in the lighting of the candles and prayer. I did some Instagrams video yesterday where Michele, her sister Amy and her niece shared what La Familia de Hoy means to them.

I am one of five children where three of my siblings are married and have kids. So our family celebrations are always big and a big advantage is that most of us live in Miami. As my parents age, even though we live in the same city, I want to be able to live very close to them and have been thinking that it would be better if they were within a 10 minutes drive my my brother and sister’s house and mine.

With that in mind, I chose the Jimenez familia for the Familia de Hoy (#lafamiliadehoy) contest held by Johnson and Johnson’s and Univision. They are composed of three families, mainly of Mexican heritage and their three households are connected in the backyards. Now that is what you call union! I know that for some people it might be too close for comfort, but in this case it works for them.

So make sure you log on to the Univision website and vote for your favorite family to be a spokesfamily for Johnson and Johnson in 2014 in this link: Vote
