A Man and His Dog ~ And Hazards of Love at 50

love-a-man-and-his-dog-

This is a little story about love at 50. I started dating about seven years ago after the sudden and unexpected death of my dearly loved husband. After being married for two and a half decades, I felt like a dinosaur in the dating game in my late 40’s. Without going in too much detail around ‘The Dating Game’ at this time, lets just fast forward to the age of 53 and dating “The Man and His Dog”.

I live in a very sweet neighborhood. It’s quiet. People actually say “Good Morning” which is an anomaly in Miami Beach. But this particular neighborhood is for the people searching for a bit of that old-time living. We have Hassidic Jews, Latinos, wealthy and blue collar all mixed into the same area. I don’t need to lock my doors. I love it! Melting pot Miami. In the dating game, that translates to dating Peru to Greece to New Zealand to half-Irish half-Crazy?!?  You’re getting the picture right??

Welcome ‘Adventure USA’

I like to take walks in the early evenings to stretch my back and break away from all the hours working on the computer. On one of these nights and many thereafter, I began to notice ‘the men and their dogs’ and began wondering about them. I would notice their faces and what kind of dogs they were walking. Like if the dog was snarly and unsociable or friendly and kind, or nappy and rude. At the same time, I was observing their owners. Who were these men?? …

There are very few times in our lives where we have the opportunity to know someone deeply. They come into our lives and all of a sudden they allow us to discover our true essense. It is an unselfish love, very different to the love we have for ourselves and others. And that love also allows us to say goodbye when it is necessary.

The Person That Stirred My Soul

I am going to tell you a little story.

Artículo en  Español: El Ser Que Desperto Mi Alma

There exists a SOUL that is behind every lesson and in every one one of those lessons, is this story about that BEING that she met in a very special moment on her path.

Through that BEING, SHE learned a lot of things, all good even though the SOUL didn’t understand the form or manner of how it happened. The best she could do was to accept everything as it presented itself and SHE decided to live this different experience with HER usual curiosity. SHE decided to form a different kind of friendship, one between a BEING and a SOUL , one much deeper than a man and a woman usually has. …

La Familia de Hoy Is Diversity

Disclosure: This is a compensated program between Johnson and Johnson and Latina Bloggers Connect. All opinions are my own.

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving at my Panamanian sister in law’s house, Michele who is married to my brother Pablo. Family has always been important to me. My first thoughts when I was going to write about this campaign was the diversity and union with families. For example, as a divorced mom of one child, my son has a step sister and a step brother from his father’s 2nd marriage. He goes to two family Thanksgiving and holiday celebrations so he can enjoy it with all his extended families. Sometimes he gets late to one gathering, but I never pressure him. He gets to enjoy both sides of the family. I never made it an issue so he would never feel torn.

Another diversity in our family is with religious beliefs. Michele is Jewish and celebrates our Catholic events like Baptisms and Confirmations as part of the family. Yesterday happened to be Hannukah and we celebrated with her in the lighting of the candles and prayer. I did some Instagrams video yesterday where Michele, her sister Amy and her niece shared what La Familia de Hoy means to them.
